So while most of us are trying to take a break from all of the craziness that these past few months has ensued, I did want to take a moment to bLOGAN just a bit this CHRISTMAS day. As I'm sure we all know by now, brizilliant and iconic British scribe HAROLD PINTER has shockingly passed away this holiday season.  

I could go on all day about the significance PINTER has played in my life, but I will simply leave it at he will never be forgot.

Aaahh.. I still catch myself singing along to every last word to TORN whenever I hear it on in a grocery store or elevator..

So I'm feeling the crunch that this time of year brings. 7 days more in the year and still a laundry list the length of the GRAND CANYON of things I want to do before 2009 comes rolling in with a vengeance.  Realistically, I prolly won't be comin' back atcha til after the new year as I'll be crazy running around getting ready for NEW YEARS in PUERTO VALLARTA, so until then... That's all!

MY HAIR IS GREATER ON ONE SIDE..

So I was just thinking the other day... It's been a while since BIG LOVE has been on the air (at least it seems that way to me...). Anyways, turns out it's finally comin' back at us this JANUARY 18TH!!!

This season is going to be huge, especially after all of that PROP 8 attention the MORMON church drew to itself... I'm sure the writers are going to have a self referential field day!!


So we tiVo'ed ALEXIS ARQUETTE's documentary on the BIO channel and watched it the other night with great interest...

I think what I found most interesting was how often ALEXIS goes through situations changing the story as she goes along. Anyway, it was fun to watch and see a lot of our friends involved. Did anybody else catch it?


So this week is going to be crazy, hectic, what with XMAS and all... While I prolly won't be able to get any posts up, I'll deffo be drafting some YEAR END LOOK-BACKS and the like so I'll have plenny of content to come! Hope everybody's living out the last few days of this year as completely as they can! We're just about to wrap this bitch up, aren't we??

So until I saw this picture today online I hadn't realized... We haven't actually been treated with a good look at the BUSH shoe thrower until now, and I gotta say... He's kinda hot...

So one of the world's most brilliantly genius and virtuosic directors (i.e. He can do no wrong in spite of what all y'all say about AUSTRALIA) BAZ LUHRMAN has purchased the rights to "The Great Gatsby," which is like one of my fave books ever!  While a script does not yet exist, Luhrmann intends to focus on it after Australia's awards run.  

This sounds like the perfect move for BAZ.  Now we just have to wait 7 years for it to come out...

OK... So we've all heard about the scary, frightening, cult of a family THE DUGGARS, who have their own reality show on DISCOVERY (which basically plays out as a half hour documentary version of CHILDREN OF THE CORN), right??  Well... Turns out MAMA DUGGAR has just today welcomed her 18th FUCKING CHILD!!!

 

Good GOD woman!!  Like the world needs any more of this??  I'll I've got to say about that is this:

So I'm not really a holiday-ey person, but watching ENYA on REGIS and KELLY the other morning kinda put me in as much of a mood for the holidays as I'm going to get...

Such a pretty song.  And she just makes me happy.

So a busy weekend-before-CHRISTMAS planned for us.  We have lots of movies to catch up on, so we'll deffo try to get one in tonight (haven't decided yet on which one, though).  Tomorrow we're taking advantage of our annual DISNEY passes and hitting up the MAGIC KINGDOM to get in on the festive holiday ambience.  Sunday we're taking MISS DEBBY HOLIDAY to WICKED at the PANTAGES for her CHRISTMAS prezzie as it closes soon and she has yet to see it!  (I kno-ow!!)  Lots to do before the year is out!!

This morning, the ladies of THE VIEW got heated over Obama's selection of Rick Warren for his inauguration, with Sherri and Elisabitch speaking out in Warren's defense and Joy Behar (of course... Love her!) against it. Elisabitch said "I think he's a great choice," and commended Obama for his pick of invocation deliverer. Behar responded, "It's like putting Cheney in charge of gun control. It's just wrong." With that Hasselbeck said, "Who would you rather have, Reverend Wright?" (Which has nothing to do with what they're talking about...) After BA-BWA weighed in, the debate became one of gay marriage and civil unions that got the ladies all riled up, but sadly Whoopi had to break it all up to go to commercial, changing topics when they came back.  Seriously, ladies??   I'd watch myself next time I went in for hair and makeup if I were you...


OH no!! This just in... Apparently JEREMY PIVEN's not doing too well... Turns out he's had to abruptly cut his BROADWAY run in SPEED THE PLOW short due to a highly toxic level of mercury poisoning :(

I mean.... That's prety huge.  AMY POEHLER is hands down one of the most talented comedians of our time who also managed to make history by not only being part of the first female/female WEEKEND UPDATE anchor team, she is also the first cast member in SNL history to be nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category at the Emmy Awards.   She will be missed in this arena but we're sure to see many more great things to come from this one.  Loves her!

OMG. OMG. OMG.  So I had been hearing for a while how ridiculously brilliant and high-larious SUMMER HEIGHTS HIGH allegedly was supposed to be... And I've been meaning to sit down and try it out for myself for weeks now, so this weekend I finally took the plunge and now I can proudly say, there's no going back!!

So we were feeling a little under the weather this weekend, so we caught up on a lot of TV during the day.  One new spot that caught my eye as we were fast forwarding through the tiVo was this new AMERICAN EXPRESS spot:

Absolutely gorgeous!!  I always think it's so interesting how something as base as a marketing spot for a credit card company can be as touching, moving and artistic as the best film.   DAVE MATTHEWS comes off so vulnerable, GWYNETH PALTROW looks radiant in this and TINA TURNER reminds us why she's a living legend.  Very few commercials make me want to rewind and watch again, but this one did it for me!  Please to enjoy...

And for the clip of the day... We were at brunch earlier today at HAMBURGER MARY's takin' in a little hair of the dog, and to my surprise, they put on a video collab of REBA MCINTIRE and KELLY CLARKSON dueting to BECAUSE OF YOU...

Now, this is normally so not my thing, but something about the moment just hit me and I thought this duet made the song so much prettier.  Anyway, I think it's the perfect treat for a rainy Sunday afternoon...

So the GOLDEN GLOBES were announced (I know, I know... It's already that time of year!! How did this happen?!?)  And... I have to say, I'm already kind of over it... Once I saw MILK was snubbed BEST PICTURE I was pretty much done with caring about the rest of it.  You know, this award show was one of my faves back in the 90s when they awarded MADONNA the BEST ACTRESS nod for her *work* in EVITA, but these days... I'm really just over it...

Does anybody else plan on making a point to watch this year's ceremony?!?

So the trailer for the new season of THE REAL WORLD has hit the internets and I have to say... It really brings me back to those early days of the series, you know...  When it was still trying to accomplish something...

I'm actually quite biased as I have quite the personal investment in this season (confidentiality agreements were signed, can't go much more into it for now...) but I will say...   I think it'll be hard to be disappointed by this season.

So you know the year's about to wrap up when you get the ROLLING STONE BEST OF 2008 issue in the mail...  2008 has been a whirlwind, and it really puts everything into perspective when all of the TOP 10 and BEST OF lists come out during the last few weeks of a year.

It's getting to be that time, folks.  I'm putting together my own little TOP MOMENTS in MUSIC of 2008 wrap-up myself that should be posted right before NEW YEARS!!

So remember hearing about how they were developing the CHELSEA HANDLER-helmed miniature web-based series IN THE MOTHERHOOD into a primetime sitcom with none other than MEGAN MULLALLY and CHERYL HINES??  Well, we haven't heard much about it since it was first announced, but apparently the recent word to come from the set is not too promising...

OMG!!  I can't believe they're not getting along!!  I worship MEGAN MULLALLY and I just adore CHERYL HINES and I was soooo excited for this concept... They better work this out before the show airs!

So every now and then I hear about a small, indie project and I realize how far removed I've become from the "small film" scene since my days at SUNDANCE... Anyway, just now hearing about MICHELLE WILLIAMS's performance in the apparently exquisite upcoming WENDY & LUCY is one of those moments where I'm like... "What?!? Why didn't I hear about this project months ago?!?"

Directed by KELLY REICHARDT, who also brought us OLD JOY back in 2006, (which speaking of TOP 10 lists... was hands down one of the TOP 10 films of that year...) this new film promises to be one that lives on with you long after you've left the theater.  I'm really looking forward to checking it out!!

LOL!!  So this is tooo much!!  So, we're no stranger to seeing MISS DAME LIZ TAYLOR out and about in the restaurants and gay bars of WEST HOLLYWOOD... But it was pretty surprising to see our friend JESSE caught by the pap's as he accompanied her out for yet another night on the town... 

Yep!!  That's him in the back, with the grey long sleeve shirt looking none-to-pleased to be caught in the flashbulb crossfire... (Oh please, we all know he loved every minute of it!!)  Anyways, he's her long time care-giver and confidant and if that means every now and then being plastered across the gossip sites then... So last week when we went to see AUSTRALIA, we caught the trailer for what looked to be just a silly little frothy rom-com of a mid-winter romp called BRIDE WARS.

And I've gotta say... It was genuinely the first time I'd seen footage of KATE HUDSON (since ALMOST FAMOUS) where she was actually compelling and sympathetic to watch...  Hmm... I just might go check it out... I mean, with ANNE HATHAWAY involved, you know at least half of the flick will be watchable...  Not to mention, the studio's marketing for this joint is pretty ingenius!

So in case you've been wondering where JARED PADLECKI has been all this time...

YUMMM!!! I was starting to wonder... Good to hear he was simply working on his hotness!

So this just seems to be the story that won't go away... I remember first hearing VIVA LA VIDA on my way into work earlier this spring and instantly fell in love. Well... ever since VIVA LA VIDA hit the airwaves and started blowing up, accusations of it being plagiarized just keep on swirling around the band. I was first tuned in to this fiasco when I came across this clip a few months ago...



Well since COLDPLAY has recently been lavished with a number of GRAMMY nominations (no surprise there...) This new new lawsuit has reared its ugly head in the band's direction...



Hmm... Both artists make a convincing case... But aesthetically speaking, I still think that VIVA LA VIDA is a better song IMHO... I guess having a shitload of money and production at your finger tips helps but still...

Aaahh... I miss SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE (is it summer yet??) But it looks like CANADA is having it's turn right now and they're being treated to some hot, hot man action!!



Absolute yums!! Looks like a trip to CANADA is long overdue ;)

I've been putting together my own personal lists in music, movies and possibly TV. The ROLLING STONE edition where they compile all of their TOP 10 lists should be coming out soon as well, so 2008 is deffo coming to a close...

So what the f*@# happened with AUSTRALIA??! I'm finding the news of its anticlimactic release pretty incredible...

This movie was supposed to have it all... What went wrong? I personally was enraptured throughout its almost 3 hours but... I almost voted for KERRY in 2004 so what do I know...


So it should come as no surprise that I love me some SEAN PENN...

As if we needed anymore reasons to love him, the word that he had actually requested more sexy-time scenes in MILK just puts my admiration for him through the roof!! It's a crime against humanity that I have yet to see this movie, but my BF won't let me go until our boy MARKIE (who appears as SYLVESTER in the film) is free to accompany us.. Looks like this weekend the stars will align and my thirst to finally envelope myself in this film will finally be quenched!!
